What is psychotherapy?

 

  • Psychotherapy is a process in which you and the therapist, in a safe and trusting environment, explore your problems and find ways to resolve those problems.  The focus is to create a positive change so that you can experience all aspects of your life more fully and live happier.  Psychotherapy can provide an opportunity to better and more deeply understand yourself and move on the path towards emotional well-being.  Therapy is not always easy, but working through the challenges can be enlightening and filled with joy when your are ready for change in your life.

Will my therapy be confidential?

 

  • Yes, confidentiality is an important element of therapy.  It's part of what makes it work! I won't talk to anyone on your behave unless your give my authorization in writing and sign a release of information form. The only exception to confidentiality is if you report to me child, adult dependent and elder abuse, and danger to yourself or others. I will have to make a report to the appropriate agencies. 

What kind of therapy do you do?

 

  • My basic frame work or style of therapy is an eclectic theory.  I work with different theories, but mostly with Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Psychoanalytic Therapy, Solution Focus Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Client Center Therapy, Children and Adolescent Play Therapy and Behavioral Therapy.    

How long does each session last?

 

  • Therapy sessions are 45  to 50 minutes. Sometimes schedules, location and traffic make it difficult to get to an in-person session. In those instances, I am happy to arrange phone or Skype sessions.

How many times a week is a typical session?

 

  • Most clients are seen once or twice a week in the beginning, then biweekly and less frequently over time and presenting issues are stable. The number of session depends on what the patients needs are. 

How long will I be in therapy?

 

  • The length of time a patient is in therapy depends on the presenting issues and the goals of the treatment.  Some patients have a very specific problem that can be worked through in a couple of sessions. For other patients, therapy is an on-going support process and they choose to receive therapy for a longer period of time.

How much does it cost?

 

  • Therapy is definitely an investment of time, energy and money.  Please contact me for my current fee. Full payment is due at the time of your appointment.
  • Also, sliding scale fees are available and therapist will do her best to accommodate your treatment and financial needs.  Should you be interested in this option, please let therapist know and she will discuss your individual circumstance with you. 

Do you take insurance?

 

  • At present, therapist does not participate on any insurance panels. However, should you have out-of-network coverage through your insurance; a receipt for services will be made available so that you can submit it for reimbursement. 
  • Please note that clients will be responsible for the full fee in the event of a missed or cancelled appointment with less than 24 hours notice.  Fees are due at the time of service in the form credit card, check or cash.  Accepted credit cards are: Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and Amex.
